Available for pre-order now, from Elder Signs Press, scheduled for release March 2010!

My story, "Upon this Forgotten Altar: A Tale of the Barbarian Kabar of El Hazzar", will make its long awaited appearance. This anthology was originally slated as Eldritch Steel. Stories by moi [Angeline Hawkes], Steven Shrewsbury, Christopher Fulbright, Lon Prater, Tim Curran and others. I'm waiting on the final Table of Contents.

Presenting an eldritch dimension that is familiar and unsettling, this anthology of alternate-history tales touches upon a dark mythos unseen beneath the surface of the real world. Conducting a journey into a timeless universe of what might have been, this collection of stories contains narratives composed by today’s most popular Cthulhu Mythos authors. Ideal for sword and sorcery aficionados and written in the authentic style of traditional dark fantasy, this compilation is a must-have for fans of Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, and H. P. Lovecraft.

2011 will see the collected adventures of Kabar of El Hazzar published in a novel-length collection by Bad Moon Books. Out of the Garden and Other Tales of the Barbarian Kabar of El Hazzar will feature 2 new novellas, many new stories, and a handful of favorite reprints. Tune in for new details as they come. Until 2011...snatch a copy of Ancient Shadows at the awesome pre-order price!!

In other news: Robert Weinberg has written an AWESOME introduction for my themed horror collection [60k words] Inferno: Tales of Hell and Horror due out 2010 from Dark Regions Press. The collection is with the publisher now.

Shades of Blood and Shadow, my horror collection, also from Dark Regions Press, is scheduled to begin shipping in August.

Non-writing news: I've been busy sewing the nursery items. Finished: crib dust ruffle, window valance, and wall hanging so far. My writing hiatus lasts through the month of July, then I'll be back in the saddle come August. I have a whirlwind of writing scheduled. Never a dull moment! Idle hands make devil's tools afterall!

Don't forget to come see me in Wylie, Texas at
Eerie Books & Collectibles this Saturday, July 4th from noon to 6 pm! Texas's only ALL HORROR bookstore! I'll be signing copies of my horror collection, Symphony for the Forgotten, 2008 Bram Stoker nominated anthology, Beneath the Surface ["The Relic: Father Santiago's Bone"], and the 2007 Origins Award nominated anthology, Frontier Cthulhu ["In Waters Black the Lost Ones Sleep"].

That's my scoop. Go buy some books!

Journalist Ethan Nahte wrote an awesome article for the Dallas Examiner about my upcoming signing this weekend, July 4, Saturday, 12 pm to 6 pm at Eerie Books & Collectibles in downtown Wylie, Texas.

Thank you Ethan!

I hope to see my faithful minions and potential new minions this weekend...there is always room on the Ghoul Squad for new recruits!

Mark your calendars for the Fourth of July! I will be downtown in Wylie, Texas signing books at Eerie Books & Collectibles from noon to 6 pm. In stock are copies of my horror collection, Symphony for the Forgotten, 2007 Origins Award nominated anthology, Frontier Cthulhu; and 2008 Bram Stoker nominated anthology, Beneath the Surface.

Come on out and say hello!

Writing and other stuff

  • Jun. 3rd, 2009 at 4:46 PM

Updates of a sort...I'm on a writing hiatus...that's not to say the inner workings of the publishing industry aren't still turning in my brief absence, lol...turned in the manuscript for Inferno, so edits will be back on that sometime this summer. Decision is still out on whether or not there will be new stories in the reprinting of The Commandments. I will, of course, write whatever Dark Regions wants. I'm easy like that. You ask, I write. It's an easy job description, lol. Shades of Blood and Shadow is posted on the Dark Regions site, but not order-able yet from the looks of the page.

I imagine that will be posted sooner than later. I have a Fourth of July book signing at Eerie Books and Collectibles in Wylie, Texas set for noon to close [ 6 pm]. Randy [the owner] has stocked copies of Symphony for the Forgotten, and anthologies - Beneath the Surface and Frontier Cthulhu. Should be a busy signing as all sorts of activities will be going on down on the Wylie square. Come in and see me!

So, new projects. As soon as the scrapbooks are finished [photo albums] and the nursery is painted, and sewn for, I'll be back to the grindstone. I really needed a hiatus. I've been writing non-stop since August of 2008. Almost every night. My brain needs a break. When the nursery is finished, I'll rest easier. I'm an avid nester. The nursery MUST be completed. For Kiddo #1 his nursery was finished 4 yrs before he was born...the cat was confused, she thought it was her room. lol.

So....Bad Moon Books has my entire Kabar series coming out in an awesome collection: Out of the Garden and Other Tales of the Barbarian Kabar of El Hazzar in 2011... Inferno: Tales of Hell and Horror will more than likely come out in 2010...so I'm covered. I have handful of anthology stories coming out as well in the meantime, and as soon as the hiatus is over, I'm sure I'll have a plethora of other story announcements. It's all silently churning....

In sewing: except for a few Bambino/Bleuette ensembles that I'm sewing while I wait in the soccer mom line at the school, the only other thing I've worked on is the first baby quilt for the nursery. Photos when finished of course.

Photo albums: .I'm up to mid-May in the photo albums now...I predict another week until finished. Then it's on to the nursery painting/mural...then the sewing...

AND I already have 3 tomatoes in the garden and 1 almost ripe jalopeno! Go garden go! The pear trees are doing fabulous as well! We had a minor front tree incident involving Teh Hotness and weed killer, but I think it will hang in there. He's been very diligent about rescuing it. He's rather the green thumb...this was a freak accident!

Adoption news:
We're waiting on copies of our home study from our social worker so we can send in our immigration form and start processing the petition to adopt a foreign orphan. Lots of waiting. I get sad from time to time. I check the baby webpage every morning when I log onto the net...always hoping to find "our baby girl"...we're on the direct call list now...so really, any time we could get a call. This is a lot more difficult than waiting while pregnant. At least then you have a focal point...this is nerve-racking. The not knowing. Once we get a referral it will be easier. We'll have something to focus on and then will just have to wait to bring her home. For now, we just have to wait and hope and pray. We know there's a baby girl out there waiting or perhaps waiting to be born...but she's ours and we pray every night for her birth parents and for her.

That's the scoop for now...school's out tomorrow!! School's out for the summer...air guitar! Woot! Mom Taxi is on vacation!!!

Books, Convention wrap-up, and Baby News

  • Mar. 2nd, 2009 at 1:17 PM

If you didn't catch it before, my new horror collection, Symphony for the Forgotten, is now available on amazon. More info a few posts back if you need linkage.

In other book news, one of my faithful minions sent me linkies to a review of my story, "The Fantastical Acquisition of the Sword of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna", in Lethe Press's Spicy Slipstream Stories, edited by Jay Lake and Nick Mamatas. Good review for the most part. The reviewer had issues with the rape scene [which by nature of the pulp feel of the anthology was not detailed, but enough to give you the squirrelies, which was the point], but that's okay. Overall, the reviewer liked the story. This story was a blast to write and both Lake and Mamatas are such great editors that it didn't even feel like work.

I'm behind a week now on my Inferno: Tales of Hell and Horror collection [Dark Regions Press]. I got a mutated strain of Type B Influenza and it knocked me flat...on top of that kiddo#2 came down with Bronchitis the same week, followed closely by Kiddo#1 who got Strep. They went to stay at their dad's house, who fortunately, didn't get sick [either did Chris which was good since I needed taking care of]. Everyone is back in school today...I'm not 100% but I'm no longer bedridden, so that's good news. But, tonight, the writing must begin again in earnest. I keep this ship a well-oiled machine, so when something drastic happens it all comes crashing to a halt....but we'll get 'er running again in no time.

ConDFW Wrap-up:
We forgot our camera so no photos, will have to glom onto someone's when I find them posted online. I was there on Saturday. We had a great DFW HWA 'lupper" or linch? lol...at Blue Mesa. Had some new people show up which was great. Enjoyed time with Dean Andersson and his gorgeous wife, Nina Romberg aka Jane Archer, Gabrielle Faust, Brian Moreland, Richard Weber and others. We got lost on the freeway, but made it back to the horror panel a little late. John Steakley, Cathy Clamp and Brad Sinor were doing a good job holding the fort for us until we could all come waltzin' in, lol. The panel was fantastic. Steakley assured me that his offer from years past of a lifelong promise of leisure and luxury still was good and then told me I was no longer allowed to be married AND wear the skirt I was wearing to conventions. lol. He was his usual charming, funny self. We had a great panel.

After the panel, Gabrielle Faust and I shared a reading slot together. I guess they decided to put BOTH the hot horror chicks at the same time to cut down on security issues. lol. We had a full house. I read "Lost: One-Eyed Chihuahua" from Symphony for the Forgottten. A nice little dark humor piece. Gabrielle read from her awesome book, Eternal Vigilance.

Half way through Gabrielle's reading I developed chills and so I was sweating and then freezing....we hung out in the hotel bar [that sounds sleezier than it was, there was a nice seating area and I drank Sprite] for about an hour until I felt ill enough to slide under the table then we headed home.

I always get attacked by Con Crud...but this year was a record [the type B Influenza]! I couldn't even get out of bed on Sunday, so Christopher had to go it alone. I had a signing that afternoon where I was hoping to sell some books, but didn't happen. I did sell a few after the panel on Saturday though.

So, that was the whole con for me this year. Nice hotel, and the energy was definitely improved. I think the con might have a few more years left in it afterall. Seemed revitalized this year.

Adoption news: the social worker comes on Thursday for our first home study visit. Had to write a huge, honkin' painful check, but other than that, we're set. We got the house cleaned up and mostly all that's left is the yard and vacuuming.

Oh, and I thought I'd throw this out there, if anyone has baby girl stuff to get rid of, we're the dumping ground. lol.

Symphony for the Forgotten is a greatly entertaining foray into religious and spiritual horror, nicely balancing both sacred and profane in its quest for those universal truths we know are tinted in shades of dark. In this rousing collection, Angeline Hawkes travels time and history to tell sometime ambiguous but always exhilarating tales of sinners and occasional redemption. -- W.D. Gagliani, Author of Wolf's Trap

An entertaining, sweeping set of tales that radiate Angeline's pulse in every story. Be they far away places & times, her grasp of what lurks in the heart is clear...and quite dark at times. Truly, a fine read. -- Steven L. Shrewsbury, author of Hawg and Godforsaken

In Symphony for the Forgotten, Angeline Hawkes conducts an orchestra of creatures that are both bloody and sexy. You won’t forget this tour through historical horror; it’s a sumptuous smorgasbord for beasts craving variety. --Gregory Lamberson, author of Johnny Gruesome and Personal Demons

From the biblical age to the cyber age, Angeline Hawkes is offering up a sometimes creepy, sometimes thoughtful, but always action-packed symphony that will not soon be forgotten. This is definitely a book you want on your shelf! -- Steven E. Wedel, author of Ulrik and Seven Days in Benevolence

Angeline Hawkes’ Symphony for the Forgotten conjures dark and dangerous experiences, satisfyingly horrorific stories seasoned with sly humor, historical epics slipstreaming into alternate realities mixed with tales modern as an internet killer, hellishly inspiring, fantastically inventive, a collection of dark fiction impossible to forget! -- C. Dean Andersson, Bram Stoker Finalist, author of I Am Dracula, Raw Pain Max, and the Bloodsong Saga

Symphony for the Forgotten is one of those rare collections where every story is unique, and every story works.  Angeline Hawke's writing is sharp, elegant and satisfying in the most deliciously dark way. -- Jonathan Maberry, Bram Stoker Award winning author of Zombie CSU and Patient Zero

"A wonderful collection. Most interesting are the unusual combinations of genres and story devices, such as historical literature combined with comedic splatter, the battle against Satan waged as a military operation, and a gore-drenched version of the David & Goliath tale. There's humor, sorrow, magic, and even a one-eyed Chihuahua. Very highly recommended."  --Jeff Strand, author of Pressure and The Sinister Mr. Corpse

From a modern chatroom dangerous liaison... to a ghastly scene of bewitched decay in revolutionary France; from a Civil War run-in with a hellhound to a retelling of the biblical David and Goliath story with a zombie chaser, in Symphony for the Forgotten, Angeline Hawkes takes her readers on a tour of commingled history and horror, usually wrapped in one neatly coiffed, if bloody package. Time travelers beware! -- John Everson, Bram Stoker Award winning author of Needles & Sins and Covenant

Of Hell Fire and Pirates

  • Jan. 5th, 2009 at 12:46 PM

Busy weekend.

I've told y'all that I've turned in the manuscript for Shades of Blood and Shadow to Dark Regions Press for a Spring 2009 release. I'm very busy writing on Inferno Tales of Hell and Horror now. This is also for Dark Regions Press for a Fall 2009 release. Along with this collection, DRP will be publishing a deluxe or lettered edition and a TPB edition of my out of print, 2006 Bram Stoker Award nominated collection, The Commandments. I've been working my butt off writing on Inferno...I'm a little over 1/4 of the way through. Write, write, write....

Turned in the final manuscript of a new Kabar of El Hazzar story to a super secret as yet to be titled anthology that also comes out this year. More info on that when I get it. Christopher aka Teh Hotness also has a story in the antho, along with Charles Gramlich, Robert Weinberg, Mark Finn, I believe James Reasoner....and many more!

I'm awaiting publication of 3 other anthologies that have horror stories of mine, and of course Symphony for the Forgotten -- horror collection from Daverana Enterprises.

Busy year so far and we're only 5 days in! Yay!

In Sewing news, I'm working on 18 Bleuette pinafores for a Valentine Exchange in the Bleudoor Bleuette yahoo group. So much fun. And of course I've been sewing my fingers off and have a pile of all new ensembles and accessories to list on ebay. I scored an excellent supply of wood and metal sleds for Bleuette in the after holiday sales, and can't wait to create some hats, jackets and scarves sets to go with the little sleds! Also scored some tiny Bleuette kitchen accessories to list with pinafore aprons. I've been a sewing-bot!

This weekend we were busy painting bathrooms. The downstairs 1/2 bath is going to be travel themed, and the upstairs kids bathroom is going to be the inside/and deck of a pirate ship. I'm so hyped about this bathroom! I'm going upstairs to work on it as soon as I'm finished here. I'll post photos when we're finished. I just finished ordering the jolly roger shower curtain and wastepaper basket. Part of the bathroom walls will be the inner ship, and 1 entire wall and the portion over the shower will be the sea view, complete with 3-D deck railing. The kids are sooo excited.

Okay, I'm off to do dishes, laundry, detail painting in bathroom, wallpaper border up in bottom, and finish writing a story. Weather is crappy out and cold!

Fearzone has Symphony for the Forgotten listed as an editor's pick for 2008. Go read the list! Woot!

There has been a delay and Symphony for the Forgotten won't be released until 2009. I have requested the work be removed from the Bram Stoker Recommended work List, the book will be eligible for Stoker consideration in 2009 now. Thank you to those who have recommended the collection. I really appreciate your support. To all those who have emailed asking where to find it or when it will be available...it's coming. I promise!

Meanwhile, work continues on my other collection due out Fall 2009 from Dark Regions Press. This one is not to be confused with Shades of Blood and Shadow, also coming out from Dark Regions Press in Spring 2009. SoBaS has been turned into the publisher and is being illustrated by Tom Moran. I'm VERY excited about these collections, stay tuned for more news with this publisher!

Sewing news: I've been sewing like a crazy person and hope to get the ensembles I've finished over the holidays listed on ebay soon. Right now there are a handful of items listed, and I've removed all of the Christmas/holiday ensembles. If you're a member of ForBleuette, the 3 remaining holiday ensembles have been marked down in my album there, otherwise they'll be held for holiday listing next year.

UGH! I have to go do sales taxes...ugh ugh ugh...fortunately, I'm a meticulous record keeper so the process is always uneventful, but tedious all the same. After that, we have to do the big whammy...Income taxes....[making the very 80s gag me hand to mouth gesture].

No big New Year's Eve/Day plans. Teh Hotness will probably be studying for his Biology test and I'll be writing...I told the kidlets they can attempt to stay up and watch the ball drop on TV if they so desire, but they have to do it in the family room because us old ones will be working downstairs. I'll be surprised if they make it past 9 pm. lol.

Okay...off to do taxes. Coffee...need coffee....

Hi-ho, hi-ho...

Turned in the last story for SHADES OF BLOOD AND SHADOW, horror collection, coming Spring 2009 from Dark Regions Press.

Should have a url for purchase of SYMPHONY FOR THE FORGOTTEN, horror collection, coming from Daverana Enterprises any moment now! Priced at $6 and some change this will be a great stocking stuffer!! Contains NEW stories and a handful of reprints that are among my favorites.

Working on the super secret ALL NEW horror collection due out apprx Sept 2009....spent all weekend and up til last night  hammering out the table of contents, the intro, and most of the 24 story ideas. Back at work on that tonight.

Super secret novel with awesome prominent horror author also super secret, has been put on hold until the super secret collection is finished...

Are y'all feeling like you need to save your box tops and send off for the super secret decoder ring yet? lol...

Teh Hotness aka Christopher Fulbright has the fantasy/s&s novel we're working on in his pile, then it'll be back to me, hopefully after the holidays, and it will have to wait for the super secret collection to be wrapped up too.

On a non-writing note:

All of our Holiday shopping is finished, finito, and wrapped and under the tree. All of the decorations are up and cards sent. The kids vacations schedule has been established...and we have a turkey [on sale for 30 cents a lb] in the fridge for Christmas...

Yeah, it's a busy life...but you gotta love it!

I'll be signing books at the grand opening of Eerie Books in Wylie, Texas [205 N. Ballard Street ]  this Saturday, October 18th, from 2 -4 pm. Eerie Books has the distinction of being the only ALL HORROR bookstore in Texas. I will have proofs of my new collection SYMPHONY FOR THE FORGOTTEN which is due out SOON.

The Wylie square has several wonderful cafes and restaurants, as well as an awesome coffee house/antique store...so come on out for lunch and then pop by the bookstore and say hello!

Eerie Books celebrates its grand opening on Saturday, October 18, 2008 by giving away free horror movies and free horror books to the first 100 visitors to the store that day. In addition to horror books, Eerie Books also carries horror movies on DVD (both new and used) and other horror collectibles, like comic books, games, and artwork.

Size 4 anyone? anyone? Bueller?

  • Sep. 6th, 2008 at 3:16 PM

Ebay auctions

Okay...the house clean out for my goal of a totally "free" Christmas is underway. I've listed a TON of clothes...AWESOME LEATHER PANTS...jeans, kids clothes, BOOKS, doll stuff [of course]....

I'm trying to recycle clutter into Christmas money. The Girl Child's Christmas is now completely purchased and paid for. Now, I'm working on the Boy Child's list. Which contains 1 item. A new computer package. His current one is about 10 years old I think.

If anyone knows a teen or woman that wears a size 4 to 6 there are some really awesome clothes listed. I had to part with 2 pairs of Awesome Gap leather pants too....middle age is catching up with me at last. Sigh.

Novel almost finished. Sewing continues, nearly finished with a Bedtime for Bleuette ensemble with robe, nightgown, slippers, quilt, teddy bear and book. Listed 2 new fall ensembles today.

Other writing progresses. I hope you're all on pins and needles waiting for SYMPHONY FOR THE FORGOTTEN!! I'll forgive you if it's just pins and no needles. hee hee.

Gotta go write more words. Words are good.

Ring around the rosey....

  • Aug. 29th, 2008 at 12:00 PM

Got word from the publisher that SYMPHONY FOR THE FORGOTTEN is sooooonnnn to be released. Yay. Got the info up on our MySpace page, and it's posted over at HWA now. I'll wait til closer to the release date to do a net sweep, lol. I'm also thinking up some sort of Give Away...can't have a book come out without some sort of fun contest! Some sort of book package maybe. I also have an awesome mini coffin to give away!

Auctions closing soon. So far I've been using the auction money to pay for Christmas gifts. Would be awesome if I could pay for Christmas entirely out of "recycled" money. If you or anyone you know wears a 4 to a 6, I've listed like my whole closet...because, unfortunately, 40 happens. Also still lots of little girl clothes listed. And doll stuff! Don't you need a demon baby for Halloween? Oh, you know you do!!

The sewing of new fall/winter dresses for Kiddo#2 progresses. Had a rough couple of weeks, so slower than anticipated, but it's coming along. Also work on the fantasy novel. I've got 3 chapters to go. Woot!

Okay...I'm off to do laundry and such.

The Scoop

  • Aug. 21st, 2008 at 12:15 PM

Writing news:
I'm about 20k away from finishing my part of Christopher and my fantasy novel. The next up is a horror novel co-written with a different collaborator. The outline is basically finished for it, the title is being chewed upon. As soon as I finish the fantasy novel, I have some research to delve into then will start the horror.

Symphony for the Forgotten is closer to it's big release date! Here's what others are saying about the collection of 14 horror/cross genre stories:

Symphony for the Forgotten is a greatly entertaining foray into religious and spiritual horror, nicely balancing both sacred and profane in its quest for those universal truths we know are tinted in shades of dark. Time travelers beware! -- John Everson, Bram Stoker Award winning author of Needles & Sins and Covenant

In other writing news, I have submitted a novel-length collection with awesome cover art by Stacy Crum [Cemetery Dance, etc]entitled, Out of the Garden and Other Tales of the Barbarian Kabar of El Hazzar to a publisher.

I've taken a break from short stories while I finish the novels I have lined up.

Sewing News:
Working on jumpers/pinafores and dresses, and some rumba jeans for Kiddo#2. Her birthday is coming up on September 2 too, so have finished buying her bday gifts. Now I'm working on her Christmas. She's made it so much easier now! She wanted the Felicity American Girl stuff for birthday, and the Samantha American Girl stuff for Christmas! Ebay is a godsend!

Other Stuff:
Not feeling good today. Lots of pain. We've had a storm system or two hanging over us for an entire week now and sometimes the pain seems unbearable. I muddle through as best as I can. Keeping busy helps. Once in a while, being busy gets undermined by excruciating pain and I'm forced to lay down and read or hand sew. Always seems to strike when I have a lot to get finished elsewhere that doesn't involve lying flat. Grumble, grumble.

School starts on Monday. Christopher and the kiddos will be heading back to the grindstone. My taxi service will be pressed into service once again. This year it's 2nd grade and 6th grade. Kiddo #1's last year in elementary school. Where does time go?

Well, time to fix lunch and auctions are closing on ebay...if you have a girl child sizes 4 through 7...there are a TON of awesome clothes lots closing within the hour.

Sewing/Doll news: Finished 3 ensembles, soon to be 4. Will list next week. Bought a wholesale lot of matching doll shoes and pink socks, so soon will offer complete Bleuette ensembles at an affordable price!  Hit an awesome sale and got some grab bags of trim and ribbons/lace coming in the mail. Also found an awesome reproduction fabric website, and they also have awesome japanese imported fabric. Bought a few 1/2 yard pieces for Bleuette clothes. Most of the fabric has been accrued for the making of Kiddo#2's dresses/pinafores.

Other Stuff: Have most of the kiddos school clothes purchased and either in the mail coming here, or here. Woot. Backpacks and shoes also purchased. School supplies purchased through PTA pre-assembled packages in May. Lunch boxes have been deemed in new condition still and will be reused from last year. I bought 3 double/triple your money new Gymboree lots on ebay for Kiddo#2 and hit the Children's Place 50% off online sale...so woot! Great savings! The shoes were averaging about $4 a pair so I stocked up in the next 2 sizes for Kiddo#2. Nice to get it all done before the soccer mom's lose all shreds of sanity and converge on all shopping places in a mad frenzy. Not for me. Give me the computer, a website or two and the UPS and USPS deliveries!

That's about it! I'm off to do laundry, dishes, make some of my almost perfected rip-off of Starbucks Frappacino, and finish sewing an ensemble. I also promised a game of Spongebob Operation [it's like the buzzerific Operation we played as kids, only they wussed it all up and made it easy and less loud...I guess they determined jolting heart attacks caused by loud-ass vibrating metal wasn't good for kids].

And YAY! We've got 50% off 1/2 Price Bookstore coupons for Sunday so we shall be making runs on all of the 1/2 price bookstores in a 60 mile radius. Quake in our wake!

A recent minion sent me this link to a review of The Return of the Sword featuring my story, "Lair of the Cherufe: A Tale of the Barbarian Kabar of El Hazzar, in which the Black Gate reviewer says":

A reader hungry to mainline pure sword-and-sorcery adventure should flip to Angeline Hawkes’s “Lair of the Cherufe.” Barbarian hero Kabar goes forth to rescue a kidnapped princess — from sacrifice to a lava monster, no less — and generous portions of creative action ensue. It’s quite tasty; if you want the heroic goods delivered, this is the place to start.

Woot! Mainlining pure sword-and-sorcery! Thanks Black Gate! I'll have copies of Return of the Sword with me at Howard Days...it's got an awesome cover!

FearZone has a teaser article up for my new horror collection coming this fall from Daverana Enterprises.

Busy packing and getting ready to leave for Robert E. Howard Days. Gonna be a hot one!

Oh, humorous aside. Proof that I've raised my kiddos right:

Kiddo#2 has started her own series entitled: Coman the Hero. She has 5 short books she has written and illustrated. Well, Kiddo #1 wanted to also write a Coman the Hero story. But, I overheard Kiddo#2 telling Kiddo #1 that he CAN'T write a Coman story because it's a trademark character and thus protected. He has to have permission before he can write a story about Coman. So, then Kiddo #1 asked permission. Kiddo #2 gave him 3 pieces of scrap paper and granted permission for a story that fit on those 3 pieces of paper. He was told, by Kiddo #2, after his story was deemed fantastic by me, the Ma and goddess of all things considered under the umbrella of writing to them, that he might not be able to write any more Coman stories. Kiddo #1 is now considering inventing his own character instead of writing in Kiddo#2's established world.

I don't know if I should read any symbolism into the 3 pieces of scrap paper or not. You will get no fan fiction from these budding writers! Huzzah!

Off to pack! See you in Cross Plains...or back here next week for the Howard Days Report!

The beat goes on...

Yesterday, the 19th, was Christopher and my 2nd wedding anniversary. We remarked that it seems like a lot longer than that. In a good way. We decided it must be the fact that we were friends for so long  before, that the time seems longer. It's been very blissful. There is no doubt in my mind that Chris is my soulmate...I've never been so happy. I look forward to a lifetime together...many more happy memories, many more books, many more adventures. I love you baby.

Finished piecing the southern belle quilt/sewing all the squares into the quilt top today. Packed up the sewing machine for a while. It's been out for some months now. I'm glad to be cleaning up the sewing for awhile. That doesn't mean I'll stop hand sewing. Just the clutter of the sewing machine is going away. Yay!

All that is left on the monster babies is the painting, rooting of eyelashes, and fixing them to the bodies [which are stuffed and weighted and waiting]. All of the clothing is finished.

Writing continues on the fantasy novel.

Blurbage and reader comments are beginning to roll in for my new horror collection, Symphony for the Forgotten, due out this fall from Daverana Enterprises.

I will be signing/selling books on Memorial Day, May 26th, at The Book Faire bookshop at Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie, Texas. I'll have with me, copies of Frontier Cthulhu, Sails & Sorcery, Beneath the Surface,  Return of the Sword, and others. Christopher and the kiddos will be mingling with the crowds, although mead consumption will be at an all-time low due to the presence of the kiddos. Come out and see me at the Faire!

Don't forget the Experiment:
Here's the experiment:  "To Save A Dynasty" is ranked #70 as of 12:38 pm on April 29th, 2008 on the Horror list at Fictionwise. I'm trying to determine how many sales make the short story travel up the list. I selected this story because it was the less expensive of my currently highest ranked stories.

So, if you're interested in this fun little experiment, 1) purchase a copy of the story, and then 2) email me your receipt. [angelinehawkes@yahoo.com] Mark the Subject line: Fictionwise Experiment. My birthday is Friday, May 2. For some birthday fun, on Friday, I'll choose 2 random receipts/emails to receive a snail mailed book surprise from me for participating. So, let's see how far up the ladder we can make "To Save A Dynasty" climb!...3 days and counting....

So for 65 cents you might get 1-3 free books! :)
