News....News abounds....

Blood Coven has advanced to the Preliminary ballot for the Bram Stoker Awards in the category of Long Fiction. Yay! Active HWA members can request a free PDF or go to the link posted on the HWA board [or in the mailer] and download the novella. [Bit of trivia: I am the only woman author in the Long Fiction category...some day we will rule the world...bwahahahaha]

My new column, The Cauldron, is now up at Fear Zone. While you're over there, be sure to check out the interview of Robert Weinberg. Good friend, surrogate father, writing mentor, and Robert E. Howard collector...not to mention all of this: Robert Weinberg is a prolific writer and anthologist with more than 16 books and 120 anthologies published in horror, fantasy, and science fiction. He's a 2-time Vice President of the Horror Writers Association, and he's won the World Fantasy Award twice. In addition, he's published over 15 non-fiction and fan-based works, on topics ranging from the Secrets of Spider-Man Revealed to the Science of Stephen King, won numerous writing awards, and is a true historian of the horror genre.

Texas Frightmare Weekend now has my photo, along with Christopher Fulbright, C. Dean Andersson, Steven E. Wedel, Deborah Le Blanc, Lee Thomas and Charlee Jacob posted as scheduled guests for the weekend events in Dallas, Texas on February 21-24.  I don't know what you think, but I think we're the sexiest bunch of scary writers I've ever seen...hee hee. Notice the head tilts in the photos. Eerie. lol.

Okay...back to work with me....y'all stay warm!

Too good to not post, lol...

On the twelfth day of Christmas, angelinehawkes sent to me...
Twelve elves drumming
Eleven goblins piping
Ten dwarves a-leaping
Nine aliens dancing
Eight wizards a-quilting
Seven dragons a-writing
Six shocklines a-sewing
Five ba-a-a-arbarians
Four vikings
Three ghosts
Two skulls
...and a tudor in a zombie.
Get your own Twelve Days:

In 2007, angelinehawkes resolves to...
Start a werewolf fund.
Tell my family about swords.
Find a better erotica.
Learn to play the wraith.
Put fifty wizards a month into my savings account.
Buy new dragons.
Get your own New Year's Resolutions:
Busy busy busy. Tree up. Family tree decorating took place Monday night. House decorated. Majority of presents bought and wrapped and under the tree or in process of being boxed up for Christmas shipping to family/friends.

Thanksgiving went off without a hitch. Chris's dad was here and we had a lovely visit. His mom comes in this weekend for an early holiday visit.

Much sewing for the Bleuettes was done over the holiday. Yay. In progress: 2 baby quilts, 1 twin quilt [blocks], and mucho doll clothes for my personal enjoyment.

Writing abounds. On my desk awaits 1 first draft, 1 rewrite, 1 story outline, and one complete novel awaiting mailing.
Blood Coven by Fulbright & Hawkes still doing well in the early stage of Stoker recommendation. HWA members can still request a free pdf of the novella by emailing me. Read it before we write the next story in the mysterious world of the Ordine.

Today much cleaning, laundry, bill paying, gift wrappage, kiddo#2 school party goody bag compiling...maybe some sewing during the wait for school to be let out [if I'm lucky]...and tonight is the world premiere of Shrek the Halls...for which the kiddos have been waiting excitedly and anxiously for!

Candy Everybody Wants

10000 Maniacs - Candy Everybody Wants

If lust and hate is the candy,
if blood and love tastes so sweet,
then we give 'em what they want.
Hey, hey, give 'em what they want.
So their eyes are growing hazy
'cos they wanna turn it on,
so their minds are soft and lazy.
Well, hey, give 'em what they want.
If lust and hate is the candy,
if blood and love tastes so sweet,
then we give 'em what they want.
So their eyes are growing hazy
'cos they wanna turn it on,
so their minds are soft and lazy.
Well who do you wanna blame?
Hey, hey, give 'em what they want.
If lust and hate is the candy,
if blood and love tastes so sweet,
then we give 'em what they want.
So their eyes are growing hazy
'cos they wanna turn it on,
so their minds are soft and lazy.
Well who do you wanna blame?

Lots going on here. There have been medical issues with medical bills; Chris has to have surgery on Halloween. Blood-sucking doctors. lol. It was a great relief to open the mail today and find 3 checks from publishers! Paid us back the money we had to spend at the CatScan place yesterday. Nice to be Even Steven. lol.

Other than that, writing and sewing. Fall Carnival coming up at the elementary school in November. Put together my new doll. I traded a Bleuette yahoo group member/friend a doll bed outfitted with antique linens that I sewed for 2 Bleuette heads. I have to save up for a body for the second head...but here is the new Bleuette: Belle:

Yay. I'm so happy to have her! Working on a new ensemble from antique fabric for the body-less head right now. Haven't come up with a name for her yet.

So, that's the scoop. I'm here, just not everywhere I am normally.

Oh, and BLOOD COVEN picked up another rec in Long Fiction for the Bram Stoker Awards...the pdf is still available free to all HWA members. The actual chapbook/novella is nearly sold out now.

Blood Coven free to HWA members

  • Sep. 18th, 2007 at 4:19 PM

BLOOD COVEN, a novella by Christopher Fulbright and Angeline Hawkes, from Dead Letter Press is now being offered as a FREE PDF to ALL HWA members. The chapbook features the artwork of Allen Koszowski. Vampires, the seedy underbelly of Victorian London and a gruesome twist of a plot. http://www.fulbrightandhawkes.com  Email Angeline at angelinehawkes@yahoo.com

On the filthy streets of Victorian London's East End, a centuries-old evil is amassing its forces. Only one man stands in its way: a legendary vampire killer called The Catcher. He's been trained from childhood by a secret society within The Holy Church. He's fast, efficient and totally professional. He's also totally on his own---working undercover in the darkest quarter of the city---outside the law.Can he succeed where those before him have failed? Not even he knows for sure.

BLOOD COVEN is a grand, ghoulish tale of vampires and vampire hunters set in the seedy underground world of late 19th century England. It's an action packed ride as good battles evil and fangs fight knives in a last-man-standing free-for-all between the brood of an ancient vampire queen and the deadliest vampire killer in all London. Lots of fun for those with a taste for bloody adventure. My only complaint was that the story ended too quickly!  -- Bob Weinberg, author of Vampire Diary: The Embrace Vampire: The Masquerade of the Red Death, Vampire:  The Machiavelli Conundrum

Brett Jordan, reviewing for the Monster Librarian, calls it a fast paced story full of action and plot twists...sure to catch the reader by surprise. Read the complete review at the Monster Librarian.com.

In his Maguszine review, David Montoya  of Magus Press calls BLOOD COVEN a fast and thrilling read, instantly entertaining ... brutal, unrelenting.... Angeline Hawkes and Chistopher Fulbright work perfectly together and their prose weaves seamlessly. The book brings new life to subjects I thought were doomed for eternal mediocrity. Apparently, I was very wrong and premature in my beliefs. This is a refreshing retreat from the vampire novels lining the shelves, novels I was certain had shoved a stake up vampire literature's ass and finally found a way to kill the bloodsuckers forever.  Read the entire review at Magus Press.

For a print novella/chapbook you can find Blood Coven at the following fine book dealers:

Other news:

Been gone all day. Got hair highlighted. Woot! Progress on the novel w/Christopher continues -- is on tonight's work slate. Ebay auctions closing in one day. FenCon approaches. Need to take inventory of our books and get that ready for the weekend. We've been invited as guests at Texas Frightmare Weekend in Feb 2008. Woot! Must go help Kiddo#2 with homework. Wow...I've got so much to do to catch up from being out all day...how do people get anything done being gone all of the time? lol. I'm still trying to figure out a way I can hole up and write without the outside world bugging me. lol. But, I hate the school bus...don't want to put the kiddos on it unless that's the only option....so I have to leave the abode at least once a day during the school week. Sigh!

Okay...off to help with homework. If you're an HWA member, be sure to request the PDF of Blood Coven!

Hey folks! Just wanted to let you know that Christopher Fulbright and myself
will be in a Live Chat at Lost and the Damned on Friday the 13th [that's tomorrow!] at 10 PM ET, 9 PM CT, 8 PM MT, 7 PM PT.
